About

Every crop grown with care from start to finish

Rooted in Hays, Alberta, Carl's Ag Ventures is built on generations of farming and seed-growing experience and a commitment to doing things right.

Carl’s Ag Ventures began in 2014, offering just a single commodity with one single variety: CDC Austenson 2-row feed barley. Today, it has grown into a diversified seed operation offering wheat, durum, barley, oats, peas, flax and triticale, along with custom treatments, bagging and blending services.

Hands on seed production

No two farms or seasons are the same. We take the time to understand your operation and help you choose the right combination of varieties and treatments, so your spring planting sets you and your fields up for success. We are a focused, niche seed company by design. That means our hands shape every seed crop we grow, from our farm to your drill. Our goal is simple: consistent, uniform, high-quality seed you can count on year after year.

Putting you first

Our seed is produced, cleaned, treated, and stored with care. Every lot meets strict certification standards, so you can plant with confidence. We offer only the varieties and treatments we trust ourselves, chosen specifically for your growing conditions. We are committed to building real relationships with our customers. We’re always happy to answer questions, walk through options or talk plans for the coming season.

Get to know Carl

Carl Huvenaars was born and raised in Hays, Alberta, a small agricultural community between Medicine Hat, Taber and Brooks. He is a third-generation farmer and second-generation seed grower who grew up immersed in pedigreed seed production.

Carl is also active in his community. He has been a volunteer firefighter for 15 years, served as a director on the Hays Community Hall board and spent eight years as a director of the Taber Seed Cleaning Plant. He joined the Alberta/BC Seed Growers board in 2023 and attended the Ivey Academy at the Ivey Business School that same year. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, scuba diving and spending time with his wife Rachael, and their daughter.
